BRKs deployed to diplomatic missions around the world
The General Delegation for National Security (DGNS) of Cameroon signed a 10-year deal in late 2020 with German company Augentic and Portuguese company Imprensa Nacional-Casa da Moeda (INCM) to produce top-quality biometric passports.
The project goal was to significantly reduce the time it took to issue passports from months to just 48 hours. To meet this ambitious target, Laxton was brought on board to provide the necessary equipment and technology.
This was made possible by the company’s ability to make alternative plans and tap into its global logistics network to ensure the equipment arrived at its destination on time.
Project
Solution: National ID
Region: Cameroon
Year: 2021
“Despite the challenges posed by tight deadlines and ongoing COVID restrictions, Laxton was able to successfully deliver the first batch of Biometric Registration Kits (BRKs) to Cameroon in mid-December 2020”
Customised ID systems
Laxton’s customisable BRKs transform any location into an Identity Enrolment and Verification office. The devices delivered to DGNS passport application centres were customised to integrate with their existing assets.
The mobile BRKs supplied for the diplomatic missions contained all the components needed to complete the passport application process in a compact configuration. Each Kit came in a protective IP67 hard case to transform any location into an Identity Enrolment and Verification office.
Training the trainers
In preparation for the delivery of the Kits, Laxton provided hands-on training to INCM technicians in Portugal. The practical training covered the set-up, operation, and maintenance of the Kits.
“Providing training is a crucial Laxton service, as it ensures our clients understand how to operate their Kits to their fullest potential. Our technical team is available for ongoing support even after the completion of a project,” Stoica explains.
A world-class passport application process
As part of the project, a National Centre for Passport Production was built in the capital city, Yaounde. DGNS application centres around the country were upgraded to facilitate a more efficient process.
Cameroon was able to launch its biometric passport application system on the 1st of July 2021. Citizens could now apply for and receive their passports within two days. The efficient, high-tech Identity Management System positions Cameroon as a leader in passport security in Africa.
Laxton continues to provide support throughout the ten-year agreement, which includes supplying BRKs and spare components.
